If you enjoy making your own dog food, sushi is a great recipe option. The preparation is easy, and the result is healthier for your pet: Raw meats and vegetables are better for your dog than processed dog food.
Sushi Recipe Ingredients
1. 1 can of salmon or tuna (save liquid for rice mixture)
1 cup of rice (brown rices is suggested)
2 cups water
1 hard-boiled egg
1/2 cup of peas and carrots (frozen mixture available in grocer’s freezer)
1 tbsp. parsley
2 tbsp. cod liver oil
One package of nori sheets (the paper sheet you roll the sushi in)
Lightly Cook
2. Mix salmon liquid, water and rice in a skillet. Cook on low until the rice is fluffy, then let the mixture cool.
The Final Mixture 3. In a bowl, combine the salmon, the rice mixture, a chopped hard-boiled egg, vegetables, parsley and cod liver oil. Mix thoroughly. Split the mixture into four parts. Spread open one of the nori sheets and put 1/4 of the mixture on it. This will be enough to make four sushi rolls.
Rolling
4. Put 1/4 of the mixture onto the nori sheet and form the mixture into a roll. Start rolling the paper around it, starting at one end and rolling to the other. When you reach the last 1-1/2 inch, dampen the edge of the paper and roll it closed. The dampening will help it stay closed.
Refrigerate the roll. Once chilled, you may slice for your dog. The roll can also be frozen and used later.
Other Options
5. Instead of salmon, you may try adding tuna or walleye. Chopped fresh veggies, like green beans, spinach, or carrots may also be used. These options can help to add some variety to the recipe.
